Outtakes or Why I love kids

You can never predict what a two year old is going to do. This is an outtake from a shoot done on Easter with the Sierra family.

Alexander has always been one of my favorite subjects. He's funny and sassy and unpredictable.

One of the things I love most about photographing young kids is that they have no real awareness of the camera. Their attention span is too short and it ensures a lot of natural looking pictures.

Of course, this isn't really what we were looking for in this shoot, but it still makes me smile. It's the quintessential personality of this little stinker. He's a hoot!

I'm also learning that while it's good to have a direction and expectations of a shoot, there is no guarantee that you're going to get it when photographing animals and children. :)

Even though that presents its own challenges, I find I'm much more able to handle the curveballs thrown at me by the little ones and the furry ones than someone who just doesn't want to be there or is having a bad day.

Luckily, that's not something that happens often, but we all have off days.

Bonaventure Cemetary, Savannah Georgia

This past March I had the distinct pleasure of going to Sandy Paws on Jekyll Island Georgia. We took a day trip to Savannah and spent some time at Bonaventure Cemetery. It is a lovely and peaceful place.

Many of you will know it from the movie Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil.

This was a first for me and I was quite pleased with the results.

Pool Shenanigans

Alexander knows no fear. This almost 3 year old is one of my favorite subjects. He just makes me laugh with his oh so expressive face. When he's done with the camera he lets me know. You have to love the innocence and candor of a child.

Oh the joy of a cold pool in the desert. Jonathon embodies the freedom of fun and summer in this shot.

Our afternoon of fun in the pool turned into an informal photo shoot. More pictures from our day can be found on facebook's NosePrints page.

These photos are taken with an 85mm lens.

In the next few days I will post pictures from this year's trips. Upcoming trips include New Orleans, Louisiana, San Diego, California, and possibly the Grand Canyon.

Oh, and check out Tucson Greys on facebook as well. This is yet another passion of mine. We help those who need it through the generosity and donations of people like you. Help us and be part of their happily ever afters!

The Photographic Journey

Sadie is seven years old and pictured above.

Spud is nine years old and pictured above.

Since I bought my camera to take pictures of my dogs, it's only fitting that they are the subjects of most of my photographs. Both are retired racing greyhounds and they are the furry loves of my life. They have changed the direction of my life several times over.

From the goofy to the sweet, the hysterical to the serious, these dogs provide more expression and fun than I'd ever hoped for.

I have recently started expanding my photographic horizons. Taking family shots and landscapes, I am exploring the world through a viewfinder.

So if you've followed me so far, you can go along on the journey with me.

I am listed on facebook under the name "NosePrints."
